Maharashtra to Develop 3,500 Smart Villages by 2030 Under Viksit Maharashtra Vision.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform 3,500 villages into "Smart and Intelligent Villages" by 2030, as part of the state’s trillion-dollar economy goal and Viksit Maharashtra 2047 vision. Launching India’s first Smart and Intelligent Village at Satanwari in Nagpur, Fadnavis announced that ten villages in every taluka will be developed in the first phase. Implemented with the support of the Maharashtra government, Nagpur District Administration, VOICE, and 24 Indian companies, the initiative integrates technology into rural life. Satanwari now offers AI-enabled education, telemedicine, smart irrigation, drone-based farming, digital banking, and water management. Farmers are using drones and sensors for soil testing and crop management, reducing costs and boosting productivity. Villagers also benefit from improved healthcare, digital surveillance, and modern education tools. With ₹1,200 crore sanctioned for Nagpur district, the model aims to revolutionise rural infrastructure, making Maharashtra a pioneer in tech-driven village development.
