Fewer documents, faster approvals, stronger housing societies..
Maharashtra Goes Fully Online for Housing Society Registration, Cuts Paperwork Sharply.
Maharashtra has digitised the registration process for cooperative housing societies, significantly simplifying a procedure that long deterred residents. The state cooperation department has launched a fully online system on the Aaple Sarkar Portal, eliminating physical paperwork, middlemen, and repeated visits to government offices. A key reform is the reduction of mandatory documents from 29 to 19, with 10 non-essential requirements—such as zoning certificates and business projection plans—scrapped. Crucial documents related to land ownership, construction approvals, promoter details, and registered agreements have been retained to ensure legal compliance. According to State Cooperation Commissioner Deepak Taware, the entire registration process is now time-bound and must be completed within two months. Applicants can submit forms, upload documents, pay the ₹2,500 fee online, and track progress in real time. The reform is expected to benefit thousands of residents, particularly in urban centres like Mumbai and Pune, where many buildings remain unregistered due to procedural delays.
