India, Iran to Hold Talks on Safe Passage of Ships Through Strait of Hormuz.

India and Iran will engage in talks this week on ensuring safe navigation for Indian-flagged energy vessels through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The discussions will take place on the sidelines of the BRICS Sherpa and foreign ministers’ meetings in New Delhi. The talks come amid concerns over India’s energy security, with around 40–50 India-bound ships currently stuck west of the strait due to regional tensions. Diplomatic engagement has helped secure the exit of 11 Indian vessels so far, but several remain unable to proceed. Iran’s deputy foreign minister is expected to attend the meetings, possibly standing in for Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi if tensions escalate further. India’s external affairs ministry, through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, has said New Delhi remains in close contact with Tehran to facilitate the movement of the remaining ships. The outcome of these talks is being closely watched amid ongoing divisions within BRICS over West Asia.
