"Building the Eastern Gateway of India’s Maritime Trade"
Andhra Pradesh Signs ₹9,000 Cr Pact with APM Terminals to Develop Three Ports
The Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) has inked a ₹9,000 crore agreement with APM Terminals, a subsidiary of AP Moller-Maersk, to develop three major ports — Ramayapatnam, Machilipatnam, and Mulapeta. The pact, signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, aims to transform Andhra Pradesh into the “eastern gateway” of maritime trade and a leading logistics hub in India. The project includes the construction of new terminals, advanced cargo-handling systems, and port infrastructure, expected to create 10,000 direct jobs. Naidu directed officials to design an integrated logistics ecosystem, ensuring low-cost cargo movement to neighbouring states like Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Odisha. He further stressed the importance of multi-modal connectivity through road, rail, inland waterways, and air networks. Andhra Pradesh is also working on a long-term plan to establish a port or harbour every 50 km along its 1,000 km coastline, boosting trade and investment opportunities.
