India to Pump ₹10 Lakh Crore into Urban Infrastructure Over Next 4 Years.
India’s urban infrastructure sector is set to attract an additional ₹10 lakh crore investment in the next four years, according to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Srinivas Katikithala. Speaking at the 17th NAREDCO convention, he highlighted that India has already witnessed investments worth ₹30 lakh crore in the past decade, a sharp jump from just ₹1.78 lakh crore during 2004–2014. With over 50% of the population projected to live in urban areas in the next 20 years, Katikithala described the shift as both a challenge and an opportunity. He urged real estate developers to align projects with upcoming infrastructure corridors—roads, metro rail, railways, water supply, and sewage—rather than waiting for connectivity to follow them. Stressing public-private collaboration, he said urban local bodies must partner with developers for efficient, high-quality services. On RERA compliance, he called for greater registration of projects and brokers, noting Prime Minister Modi’s push for stricter implementation nationwide.
