Battery storage pact to deliver clean power during peak demand hours.
Sunsure Energy, NTPC Arm Ink 500-MWh BESS Deal for Uttar Pradesh.
Renewable energy firm Sunsure Energy has signed a Battery Energy Discharge Purchase Agreement (BEDPA) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), the trading subsidiary of NTPC, to set up a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The project will operate under a 15-year build-own-operate model, with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) as the end procurer. Through this arrangement, Sunsure will deliver four hours of on-demand power between 6 PM and 10 AM, helping UPPCL manage peak demand with reliable, renewable energy at competitive tariffs. Highlighting the milestone, Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Sunsure Energy, said the agreement strengthens India’s push towards 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 under Atmanirbhar Bharat. Sunsure currently operates 500 MW, has 2.5 GW under construction, and aims to achieve 10 GW of generation capacity by 2030 across multiple states.
