Cleaner Nashik, Stronger Future — World Bank backs NMC’s sewage revolution.
Nashik Municipal Corporation Seeks ₹750 Crore Loan from World Bank for Sewerage Upgrade.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to raise ₹750 crore from the World Bank to strengthen the city’s sewerage network by laying over 200 km of new sewer lines across six divisions. A meeting between NMC officials and World Bank representatives was held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, where NMC outlined its proposal to expand and modernise the sewerage system in areas such as Pachavati, Cidco, Nashik Road, and Satpur. The project aims to replace ageing infrastructure and improve sewage management efficiency. Currently, Nashik generates about 323.3 million litres of sewage daily, managed by a 1,600 km network. NMC’s preliminary estimates suggest that the new lines will significantly enhance capacity and service coverage. Additionally, bids have been invited for a 90 km line project worth ₹190 crore under the AMRUT scheme, where half the funding will come from the central and state governments, with the remaining funds from NMC.
