₹1,570-Crore Vadinar Facility and Greenfield Shipbuilding Cluster to Strengthen India's Maritime Infrastructure.
Centre Approves Two Major Maritime Projects in Gujarat to Boost Shipbuilding & Repairs.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has granted in-principle approval to two strategic maritime infrastructure projects in Gujarat, marking a significant step toward strengthening India's shipbuilding and repair capabilities. The projects include a ₹1,570-crore ship repair facility at Vadinar in the Gulf of Kutch and a greenfield shipbuilding cluster in Porbandar district. Spread across nearly 2,000 acres, the Porbandar cluster will feature modern shipyards, ancillary manufacturing units, common infrastructure, and skill development centres, with an annual production capacity of 1.2–1.5 million gross tonnage. The Vadinar ship repair facility, jointly developed by Cochin Shipyard Ltd. and Deendayal Port Authority, will receive 25% financial assistance under the Shipbuilding Development Scheme. The project will include a 650-metre jetty, two floating dry docks, workshops, and marine infrastructure, enabling India to repair commercial vessels up to 300 metres long and reducing dependence on overseas shipyards.
