Governor champions energy efficiency, afforestation, and awareness to combat climate change
Telangana Sets 2047 Target for 50% Green Cover in Bold Climate Action Drive.
In a major climate push, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap aiming to increase the state's green cover to 50% by 2047. Emphasising a three-pronged strategy, the governor called for cross-sectoral coordination across energy, transport, urban development, and SMEs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He highlighted energy efficiency as a key lever—capable of delivering 40% of climate mitigation—and praised national programs like BEE's Standards & Labelling initiative, which contributes significantly to India's emission cuts. The governor proposed mass awareness drives, with a focus on women and youth, and suggested institutional energy audits at Raj Bhavan and JNTU to transform them into model green campuses. Commending Telangana’s efforts to engage women in solar adoption, he urged close collaboration between state agencies and national bodies like EESL. Echoing PM Modi’s climate vision, the governor stressed the need for inclusive, long-term action to ensure environmental, economic, and social resilience.
