Häfele Opens State-of-the-Art Distribution Centre in Nagold, Setting New Standards in Logistics, Collaboration and Sustainability

Häfele has opened a state-of-the-art distribution centre in Nagold, Germany, marking a major milestone in the company's long-term development and setting new standards in logistics, collaboration and sustainability.

The new facility represents the largest investment in Häfele's history and reinforces the company's commitment to its hometown of Nagold in Germany's northern Black Forest. The building forms part of a comprehensive future-oriented project that combines an advanced logistics facility with dedicated spaces for innovation, events and social interaction.

According to Sibylle Thierer, Chairperson of Häfele's Board of Directors, the investment is designed to secure the company's continued development as it enters its second century, while demonstrating confidence in its employees, the region and the future.

The new logistics centre introduces advanced technologies and a new goods-to-person concept in which products are brought directly to individual workstations. This approach is designed to improve workplace ergonomics while increasing efficiency and productivity.

Boris Katic, Managing Director for Supply Chain, highlighted that the facility significantly increases dispatch capacity and enables more efficient logistics processes. Häfele customers are expected to benefit from shorter lead times and greater flexibility, with the company aiming to process and dispatch late-day customer requests on the same day.

The upgraded processes are also designed to maintain fast and reliable service during periods of fluctuating demand and high order volumes. Together with Häfele's logistics centre in Lehrte and other European locations, the Nagold facility will form part of a more efficient European logistics network.

Sustainability is a central element of the new facility. Its energy concept combines one of Germany's largest ice energy storage systems with heat pumps and photovoltaic panels installed on the roof and façade. The building complex is designed to be energy self-sufficient for heating and cooling.

Resource conservation was also prioritised during construction. Around 28,000 tonnes of demolition waste were reused, while 30% of the tower was constructed using recycled concrete. The KfW-40 standard, along with the planned DGNB Gold and QNG-PLUS certifications, further demonstrates Häfele's commitment to sustainable construction.

The company's sustainability efforts also extend to its logistics operations. A new automated packaging process is expected to reduce the amount of filler material required, lower parcel heights and reduce overall transport volumes. These improvements are intended to reduce resource consumption while supporting more sustainable packaging practices.
