India Set to Cross 300 GW Non-Fossil Fuel Power Capacity: Pralhad Joshi.

India is on the verge of crossing 300 GW of installed non-fossil fuel power capacity, Union Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi announced at the curtain-raiser for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026. The country currently has 297 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity, accounting for more than half of its total installed electricity capacity, with a target of 500 GW by 2030. Joshi also said the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is expected to benefit over 5 million households through rooftop solar installations in the coming weeks. Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi highlighted that the next phase of India’s energy transition will focus on hybrid renewable projects, battery energy storage systems, floating solar, agrivoltaics, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission. He added that rising demand from data centres, electric vehicles, and smart manufacturing will accelerate clean energy deployment and strengthen India’s energy security.
