BMC Demolishes Illegal Additions at Mumbai’s Rustomjee Crown.

Common areas allegedly converted into private spaces as civic body begins enforcement action.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demolished unauthorised alterations and encroachments in eight flats at Rustomjee Crown, a luxury residential project in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi. The action followed complaints that residents had allegedly encroached upon common areas and converted them into private habitable spaces. The civic body had earlier issued notices to 128 flats and said further demolition action would continue over the next four days. One notice concerning flat 5201 alleged that occupants had merged a common lobby into the apartment, removed a common wall and altered the internal layout. BMC subsequently issued notices under the MMC and MRTP Acts. Activists have also sought scrutiny of building approvals, open spaces and environmental compliance. Rustomjee Group CMD Boman Irani said the project was constructed as per sanctioned plans and regulations and that the developer was cooperating with authorities.
