MahaRERA Suspends 4,812 Housing Projects, Freezes Developer Accounts.

The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has suspended registrations of 4,812 housing projects across the state since July for non-compliance. Developers failed to update quarterly construction progress or seek deadline extensions despite repeated reminders. Major affected regions include Pune (1,219 projects), Thane (535), Raigad (465), Mumbai suburban (438), and Palghar (377). The suspension means developers face transaction bans, frozen bank accounts, and penalties up to ₹2.5 lakh. While projects cannot be deregistered due to existing bookings, developers are barred from selling, marketing, or signing new agreements until they file updated timelines and compliance reports. MahaRERA has also directed property registration offices not to permit flat sales in these projects. This crackdown is aimed at enforcing accountability, protecting homebuyers from stalled projects, and ensuring transparency in the real estate sector. The list of suspended projects is available on the MahaRERA website for public reference.
