Technology transfer and collaboration to boost India’s shipbuilding presence worldwide
Royal IHC Backs Indian Shipbuilding, Partners with Swan Defence for Global Projects.
Royal IHC, the Netherlands-based global leader in dredger building, has pledged strong support to India’s shipbuilding industry, signing an MoU with Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd. The agreement focuses on project acquisition and construction of specialised offshore oil and gas vessels at Swan’s Pipavav yard in Gujarat. CEO Derk te Bokkel said Royal IHC aims to transfer technology and expertise to boost client confidence in timely delivery. “We believe the Indian shipbuilding industry has a role to play in the international market, and Royal IHC would like to support this,” he noted during his visit to Mumbai. The partnership aligns with India’s ₹1.69 lakh crore package to strengthen domestic shipbuilding and achieve a top-10 global ranking by 2030. While continuing collaborations with Indian yards like Cochin Shipyard for dredgers, Royal IHC sees Swan as a strategic partner for specialised vessels, combining European design expertise with Indian capacity.
