Special collection drive boosts tax recovery by 145%, with civic body urging remaining property owners to clear dues.

Chennai Civic Body Collects ₹103 Crore in Property Tax in 14 Days.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has collected ₹103.03 crore in current and pending property tax dues within just 14 days, following a special intensive collection drive conducted from July 3 to July 16. Officials said the initiative significantly improved tax recovery, recording a 145% increase in collections compared to the same period last year. According to City Revenue Officer K. Mahesh, the campaign will continue until July 31, with additional efforts focused on recovering long-pending dues. Out of 14.23 lakh property owners in Chennai, 7.10 lakh have cleared their taxes without arrears, while ₹969.56 crore remains outstanding from over 7.13 lakh property owners. To encourage timely payments, the corporation has been sending WhatsApp reminders with QR codes, distributing pamphlets, and publishing newspaper advertisements. Property owners can pay through the corporation's website, mobile app, WhatsApp service, tax collectors, or special collection camps established across the city.
