Renewables shine as the state powers ahead sustainably.

Tamil Nadu Sets Green Record as Wind and Solar Power Meet Majority of Demand.

Tamil Nadu has achieved a major renewable energy milestone, with wind and solar power together supplying more than half of the state’s electricity demand on Saturday. Of the 336.853 million units consumed, nearly 167 million units came from renewables. Wind power alone contributed 123.85 million units, setting a new single-day record and surpassing the previous high of 120.25 million units recorded in July 2022. It also marked the 26th instance this year of wind generation crossing 100 million units, the highest ever in a year. Peak wind generation touched 5,915 MW, another all-time high. Solar added 43.10 million units despite cloudy conditions, following its own record of 49.3 million units earlier this month. To maximise renewable integration, some thermal plants were shut down to balance supply. The Renewable Energy Power Producers Association hailed the achievement, calling it rare for both wind and solar to perform strongly in the same month.
