Mumbai Port Authority Targets ₹3,500 Crore in Lease Dues from Major Defaulters.

The Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) has launched an aggressive recovery drive to collect nearly ₹3,500 crore in outstanding lease rentals from eight major lessees, including The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), which alone owes around ₹1,800 crore. Other defaulters include Crescent Dyes & Chemicals, Provident Investment Co. Ltd., Scindia Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., and several commercial tenants occupying prime port land. The authority has engaged leading law firms and senior advocates to strengthen recovery efforts and plans to initiate criminal action against unauthorised occupants. Officials said prolonged non-payment of lease dues has severely impacted funding for the ambitious Eastern Waterfront redevelopment, including projects such as the Mumbai Marina, cruise terminals, water transport networks, and maritime infrastructure under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The MbPA urged all defaulting tenants to clear their dues, warning that continued delays threaten critical public infrastructure and Mumbai's maritime development goals.
