MHA Bars New Solar and Wind Projects Within 1 km of India’s Borders.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued new security guidelines prohibiting the establishment of new solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy projects within one kilometre of the Line of Control (LoC), Line of Actual Control (LAC), and the International Border. Additionally, areas extending up to 50 kilometres from these borders have been designated as “sensitive areas,” where certain renewable energy projects will require prior clearance from the Ministry of Defence. The guidelines also restrict the employment of engineers, workers, and labourers from neighbouring land-border countries, particularly Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China, without prior approval from the Central Government. Furthermore, any transfer of land to foreign companies in these regions will require government permission. Developers must implement enhanced security measures, including surveillance systems, boundary protection, and coordination with local authorities, while police posts may be established near projects. The move aims to strengthen national security while ensuring safe expansion of renewable energy infrastructure.
