Navratna PSU takes senior partner role, boosting India’s container logistics ambitions.

CONCOR to Operate Container Terminal at Upcoming Bhavnagar Port.

State-owned Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) will operate and maintain a container terminal at the upcoming Bhavnagar Port in Gujarat, marking its first project as a “senior partner” in terminal operations. CONCOR signed an MoU with Bhavnagar Port Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (BPIPL), the private operator of the under-construction port, which is expected to begin operations by 2028. The move represents a strategic shift from its earlier “junior partner” roles at Gateway Terminals India (26% stake) in JNPT and India Gateway Terminal (15% stake) in Cochin. The new terminal is set to cater to Central Gujarat, the Dholera industrial belt, and even extend services to the NCR. Alongside, CONCOR is exploring entry into global container shipping, supported by a KPMG-prepared roadmap and a potential joint venture with Shipping Corporation of India. Currently running 66 terminals, 380 trains, and 48,000 containers, CONCOR aims to reduce India’s dependence on foreign shipping lines handling 99% of EXIM trade.
