Lighting up Kalyan-Dombivli — one solar step at a time!

KDMC Installs First Solar High-Mast Light — Paving the Way for a ‘Solar City’.

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has inaugurated its first solar-powered high-mast light at Ganpati Chowk, Kalyan (West), marking a milestone in its mission to become a ‘Solar City’. The ₹27.5 lakh project, provided free of cost by Philips India under a pilot initiative, was led by Additional City Engineer Prashant Bhagwat and supported by top municipal officials. The advanced solar high-mast system ensures uninterrupted, bright illumination even during power cuts, enhancing public safety and reducing energy dependence. Capable of functioning for two days on a single charge, it promises efficient, sustainable lighting for urban spaces. Officials highlighted that the initiative will not only improve visibility and safety at night but also lower the city’s carbon footprint. Encouraged by this success, KDMC plans to install more solar-powered masts across the twin cities to promote clean energy and sustainable urban growth.
