Government Steps Up Land Resumption Amid Rampant Violations.

Illegal Sales of Assigned Farmlands Fuel Real Estate Boom Around Hyderabad.

The illegal sale of government-assigned agricultural lands is surging across Hyderabad’s outskirts, especially in Rangareddy, Medchal, and Vikarabad districts. Despite being non-transferable under the Telangana Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act, 1977, thousands of acres meant for landless poor are being sold to developers for real estate ventures, including layouts, gated communities, and apartments. Officials estimate nearly 10,000 acres of the 1.20 lakh acres of assigned land in Rangareddy have been illegally diverted. In Tukkuguda, 24 acres were resumed after being used for a gated community, while similar violations surfaced in Mankhal, Kandukur, and Maheshwaram mandals. Developers exploit such land for internal roads and open spaces to cut costs, while assignees gain quick profits. Authorities have started resuming lands, issuing notices, and reclaiming parcels, with nearly 100 acres under resumption in Moinabad and Shankarpally. The reclaimed lands will be repurposed for public use and welfare schemes.
