Karnataka Cracks Down on Developers Overloading Bengaluru's Power Grid.

The Karnataka government has launched a major crackdown on developers whose large residential and commercial projects are placing excessive strain on Bengaluru's electricity network. Acting on complaints from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), the Energy Department has directed Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) to take action against developers who failed to establish mandatory dedicated substations and electrical infrastructure. Under Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) regulations, projects with a sanctioned electrical load exceeding 7.5 MVA must build dedicated power infrastructure at their own expense before receiving permanent electricity connections. Energy Minister K.J. George confirmed that nearly 45 projects have been identified and issued notices. Developers violating the rules face a 10% penalty based on project cost, while continued non-compliance could result in power supply disconnection. The initiative aims to protect Bengaluru's public power infrastructure, prevent transmission bottlenecks, and ensure reliable electricity supply for thousands of residents across the city.
