India Adds 23 GW Renewable Capacity in 5 Months, Ranks 3rd in Global Power Growth.

India has added 23 GW of renewable energy capacity in just five months of FY2025, a feat that many nations achieve over years, Union Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi said at the Financial Times Energy Transition Summit India. With this, the country’s non-fossil fuel capacity has reached 252 GW, crossing the halfway mark to the 2030 target of 500 GW. India now ranks third globally in power generation growth, and fourth in overall renewable and wind capacity, ahead of many advanced economies. Solar energy has seen exponential growth, rising from 2.8 GW in 2014 to 124 GW today, while wind has expanded to 52.7 GW. Flagship initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana—the world’s largest rooftop solar scheme—are reshaping rural India, already benefitting 2 million households. With green hydrogen hubs, global alliances, and 1.3 million jobs created, India is positioning itself as a role model for clean energy transition worldwide.
