Empowering Slum Dwellers — Reviving Stalled Projects with Reform and Relief.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Releases ₹17.7 Crore Pending Rent to 883 Magathane SRA Families.

In a major relief for slum dwellers ahead of the BMC elections, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has transferred ₹17.7 crore in pending rent to 883 families of the Magathane Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project in Mumbai’s Devipada area. The redevelopment project, stalled for years on a 30,287 sq m MHADA plot, had a total pending rent of ₹46 crore. Following a recent builder deposit, Shinde ensured the immediate transfer of funds to the affected residents. The move is also seen as a political outreach before civic polls. SRA CEO Mahindra Kalyankar highlighted ongoing policy reforms to address rent delays and accelerate redevelopment under the amnesty scheme, which allows financial institutions to act as co-developers for stalled projects. As per the new Circular 210, builders must deposit two years’ advance rent with SRA — ensuring tenants receive timely compensation while redevelopment progresses efficiently.
