Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), Suzuki Motor Corporation, and TradeWaltz, Inc. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen automobile trade between India and Africa. The MoU was formalised at the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama. The collaboration aims to address challenges in automobile transportation, leverage digitalisation through TradeWaltz’s blockchain-powered trade platform, and promote decarbonisation in logistics. This initiative aligns with the "Japan-India Cooperation Initiative for Sustainable Economic Development in Africa," reinforcing the commitment to enhance connectivity between the two fast-growing markets.MOL, the world’s second-largest ship owner, is scaling up transport services from India to Africa to meet rising demand. Suzuki will focus on supplying Indian-made compact cars, popular among Africa’s growing middle class for their affordability and durability. TradeWaltz will streamline cross-border trade data and processes. Together, the three companies aim to establish a resilient, future-ready supply chain benefiting both regions.
