Free Parking, Lower Tax: AMC Rolls Out Property Tax Incentive for Businesses.

To curb traffic congestion and reduce unauthorised roadside parking, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced a property tax exemption scheme for commercial establishments that offer free parking to the public. Launched under the Comprehensive Policy 2026, the initiative encourages cooperation from businesses by granting tax relief equivalent to the area earmarked for public parking. The scheme applies to malls, theatres, hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, gyms, community halls, and non-residential properties along national highways, ring roads and state highways. To qualify, establishments must not charge any parking fee, submit a consent form via AMC’s official website, and declare parking space as per ECS norms (1 ECS = 13.75 sq m). Participants must also appoint staff to manage parking, update vehicle entries on AMC’s AmadaPark app for real-time availability, and install proper signage and marked parking bays. Non-compliance will lead to disqualification from tax benefits.
