Building Green Energy, Made in India.

Govt Pushes Local Manufacturing to Power India’s Renewable Energy Growth.

India is ramping up efforts to boost domestic renewable energy manufacturing, combining PLI schemes, the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), and industry collaborations to drive capacity addition and reduce import dependence. Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi said the ministry is working on expanding the ALMM framework beyond solar modules and cells to include ingot-wafers and eventually polysilicon, encouraging local industry investments. Industry leaders highlighted the potential of these policies to expand wind power equipment manufacturing and strengthen sub-component supply chains. According to Suzlon CEO JP Chalasani, this will not only add significant capacity but also enhance export potential. With India already the world’s fourth-largest renewable energy market, non-fossil fuels account for 50% of installed power capacity. Experts noted that demand from data centres, EVs, and green hydrogen projects will further accelerate clean energy adoption. The right energy mix—solar, wind, and storage—is seen as key to achieving 500 GW by 2030.
