Nearly 88% of Nagpur's 3,669 buildings lack mandatory Occupancy Certificates (OCs), prompting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to direct authorities to issue notices to the 3,243 non-compliant buildings and resolve pending cases within four months. The decision was taken during a review meeting attended by Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Gadkari clarified that registrations of independent houses will continue under existing legal provisions, provided all required documents are submitted. The confusion stemmed from OC and building permission requirements for large residential projects, following earlier announcements about suspending flat registrations. Authorities also confirmed that developers who fail to obtain OCs will not be allowed to register their properties. Gadkari urged officials to handle affected residents sensitively while ensuring strict legal compliance. Additionally, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will now approve building plans in former NIT layouts, creating a single planning authority for future developments.
