India Targets $2/kg Green Hydrogen by 2030 Under National Mission.

India is aiming to cut the cost of green hydrogen to $2/kg by 2030, positioning itself among the world’s lowest-cost producers, the Union Renewable Energy Minister announced at the first Green Hydrogen R&D Conference. Central to this effort is the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), launched in 2023 with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, focusing on policy, demand creation, R&D, and infrastructure. Recent SECI auctions have already discovered green ammonia prices of ₹149.75/kg, showing rapid progress in cost reduction. India targets 5 MMT of annual green hydrogen production, backed by 125 GW renewable capacity, ₹8 lakh crore in investments, 6 lakh jobs, and 50 MT CO₂ reduction annually by 2030. Over 23 R&D projects across IITs, IISERs, CSIR labs, and industry are underway, alongside pilot projects in ports, steel, shipping, transport, and fertilisers. The minister emphasised India’s innovation-first approach, highlighting hydrogen hubs at Kandla, Paradip, and Tuticorin to boost global exports.
