A debate over holistic growth versus ongoing individual redevelopments.
Pune: Lokmanyanagar Split on Cluster Development Plan.
Lokmanyanagar in Pune is witnessing a sharp divide among residents over the proposed cluster development plan. Backed by MLA Hemant Rasane, one section supports the project, citing benefits like wide roads, modern drainage, adequate water supply, ample parking, and lifestyle upgrades that could serve residents for the next century. Proponents argue the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s (MHADA) policy promises long-term, holistic redevelopment of the ageing 16-acre neighbourhood. On the other hand, several residents oppose the idea, saying it would derail individual redevelopment projects already in advanced stages, wasting years of effort and investment. They fear cluster development would delay much-needed housing renewal. With both sides holding firm, Rasane has pledged further meetings to resolve differences. The project, intended as a model for redevelopment across Maharashtra, has now sparked intense debate between collective transformation and individual progress.
