Tripura’s first solar village is being developed at Rangachhera in West Tripura, benefiting 600 households.
The ₹1.22 crore project includes an 80 KWp grid-connected solar power plant, solar pumps, LED street lights, a solar water purification system, and biogas units. Announced by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, the initiative will be completely free for villagers and aims to significantly lower electricity costs. Around 60 KW of power will be generated and distributed via the Tripura State Electricity Corporation grid. Implemented by TREDA, the project supports the state’s green energy push. The central government is expected to soon declare Rangachhera a “Solar Gram,” as Tripura actively advances its renewable energy goals under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
