The Yamuna waterway project between Gokul and Vrindavan is set to launch solar-powered boats by the end of May.

Led by the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad (UPBTVP) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), the project aims to enhance eco-friendly transport along a 22-km stretch. In the first phase, eight of the planned 11 jetties will be constructed, including three in Mathura and five in Vrindavan. Due to shallow stretches, lightweight fibre boats powered by solar and battery systems will be used. The ₹28.35 crore project also includes public amenities and infrastructure development by the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority. Diesel and petrol boats are banned to maintain environmental sustainability and support local livelihoods.
