Maritime Development Fund (MDF) have cleared Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) scrutiny and await Union Cabinet approval. Announced in the Union Budget, the MDF will have 49% government funding, with the rest from ports and private players. The shipbuilding scheme offers fixed subsidies till 2035—20% for normal ships, 25% for special vessels, and 30% for green and futuristic ships. A 40% credit note scheme will incentivize ship recycling in India, applicable only if new vessels are built domestically. Customs duty exemptions for shipbuilding materials will also extend by 10 years. India aims to climb from 20th to top 10 in global shipbuilding by 2030, supporting maritime industry growth.
