The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is preparing a comprehensive energy roadmap to decarbonize Lakshadweep, aligning with the Union Territory’s tourism-driven development goals.

The plan will include both short-term and long-term strategies, focusing on inter-island grid interconnections, potential linkage to the mainland power network via undersea cables, and integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will also play a key role in ensuring energy reliability and sustainability. The Central Transmission Utility is currently assessing the feasibility of undersea transmission cables, while other feasibility reports are underway to support infrastructure deployment. This initiative gains strategic importance as Lakshadweep seeks to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability. The CEA’s upcoming report will outline the optimal energy mix and scenarios to help the archipelago transition toward a low-carbon, resilient energy future, supporting both local needs and broader national climate objectives.
