Tata Steel is targeting 10–15 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green steel production through recycling by 2040 as part of its shift from linear to circular manufacturing.
In FY25, the company produced 30.92 MTPA of steel from its 35 MTPA global capacity, including operations in India, the UK, the Netherlands, and Thailand. CEO & MD T.V. Narendran highlighted Tata Steel’s focus on low-carbon steelmaking, including the ongoing transition to electric arc furnaces (EAF) at its UK plant in Port Talbot and plans for similar changes in the Netherlands. By 2035, the company aims to eliminate blast furnace operations in Europe entirely. In India, Tata Steel is expanding to 40 MTPA by 2030 and has commissioned recycling facilities near Delhi, with a 0.75 MTPA EAF plant in Ludhiana set to launch by FY25-end. These initiatives align with Tata Steel’s vision to lead sustainable steelmaking through circular, low-emission technologies.
