Strengthening Governance, Sustaining Vision

Gautam Adani Transitions to Non-Executive Chairman Role at APSEZ.

Gautam Adani has transitioned from Executive Chairman to Non-Executive Chairman at Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), effective August 5, in line with the company’s “internal high bar on corporate governance.” APSEZ CFO D Muthukumaran said the move was long-planned to align with best practices, as Adani was previously Executive Chairman of both Adani Enterprises and APSEZ. While he ceases to be key managerial personnel, Adani remains Chairman, ensuring continuity in long-term strategy and guidance. The transition is supported by strong management depth built over recent years, with Karan Adani as Managing Director, Ashwani Gupta as CEO, and multiple business unit leaders. Muthukumaran emphasised that although Adani’s oversight depth may shift, key strategic decisions will still be influenced by him. The change reflects APSEZ’s commitment to robust corporate governance while maintaining the visionary leadership that has driven its growth as India’s largest transport utility.
