SC Ruling Boosts Infrastructure Projects by Streamlining Land Acquisition

The Supreme Court has ruled that creating third-party rights on land parcels after acquisition is illegal, streamlining the process for infrastructure projects. This decision will expedite highway, railway, irrigation, and power projects by preventing delays caused by legal disputes. Land acquisition bottlenecks have been a major cause of time and cost overruns. The road transport ministry, which acquires the most land, plans to amend the National Highways Act to prohibit transactions on notified land until the process is complete. This ruling is expected to fast-track stalled projects and boost infrastructure growth.
