Raja Khas, a village in the Indora sub-division of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, has been declared the state's first Solar Model Village
It secured this recognition after outperforming 42 other villages in a six-month competition under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, focused on solar energy adoption. Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa announced that the government will allocate ₹21 crore for the village’s solar infrastructure development. A Model Solar Village Implementation Agency has been tasked with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to transition Raja Khas into a fully solar-powered settlement. The Himachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (Himurja) will monitor the project, while the State Electricity Board will handle implementation. The scheme promotes clean energy through components like Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for households, solarization of government buildings, local body incentives, and the creation of Adarsh Urja Grams. Raja Khas is set to become a benchmark for green energy in rural India.
