Project to localise key lithium-ion battery components and boost the EV ecosystem.
Andhra Pradesh Clears ₹2,550 Cr NSPSL Cathode Material Plant in Chittoor.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has approved an investment of ₹2,550 crore by NSPSL Speciality Chemicals Pvt Ltd to set up a cathode material manufacturing facility in Chittoor district. The project will be developed over 105 acres in Gudupalle mandal and is aimed at strengthening India’s battery and electronics supply chain. Cathode materials are a critical component of lithium-ion batteries, influencing performance, energy density, lifecycle and safety. They are widely used in electric vehicles, consumer electronics and electronics hardware. By building domestic cathode manufacturing capacity, Andhra Pradesh aims to reduce import dependence and support India’s transition towards electrification and clean energy. The project has been approved under the Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy (ECMP 4.0) for 2025–30, where it is classified under sub-assemblies and bare components. The state government said the investment will enhance strategic capabilities, support electronics manufacturing scale-up and strengthen India’s position in EVs, renewables and advanced electronics manufacturing.
