India, Siemens Launch ₹26,000 Cr Rail Project in Dahod

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a 9,000 horsepower (HP) electric freight locomotive.

At the Dahod railway manufacturing unit in Gujarat on May 26–27, marking his first visit to the state since Operation Sindoor. The project, under a public-private partnership with Siemens India as the technology partner, aims to produce 1,200 such locomotives over the next decade for both domestic use and export. Valued at ₹26,000 crore (approx. USD 3.2 billion), the initiative supports India’s push for high-powered rail freight solutions and global competitiveness. The 6-axle locomotives, capable of 75 kmph, will be maintained at depots in Kharagpur, Visakhapatnam, Raipur, and Pune. The project is expected to generate nearly 10,000 jobs in and around Dahod, providing a significant boost to local employment. This launch highlights India’s focus on advanced railway infrastructure and self-reliance in manufacturing.
