Nuclear push, green corridors, and R&D key to net zero: Govt, industry leaders at ET India Net Zero Forum 2025.

At the ET India Net Zero Forum 2025, government and industry leaders emphasized the need for nuclear expansion, green energy corridors, and local R&D to achieve India’s climate goals. Former Power Secretary Alok Kumar said India must scale nuclear capacity to 100 GW by 2047 to address the gap between solar generation and evening demand. NHPC CMD Raj Kumar Chaudhary highlighted grid stability challenges from solar and wind unpredictability and outlined pumped storage and hydropower initiatives, including green energy corridors to transmit power from Ladakh. UN’s Shombi Sharp warned of accelerating deforestation, calling India a key player in global climate action. NABARD Chair Shaji KV stressed concessional finance for low-income farmers, noting rural vulnerability to climate change. Godrej Industries MD Nadir Godrej shared the firm’s Scope 1 and 2 emission cuts, noting Scope 3 as a next focus area. Leaders agreed climate resilience, innovation, and infrastructure planning are vital for net-zero success.
