North East Attracts ₹138,856 Crore RE Investment, Holds 147 GW Potential: Pralhad Joshi.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced that 115 MoUs worth ₹138,856 crore have been signed for renewable energy (RE) projects in the North East, highlighting the region’s immense clean energy potential. Speaking at the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, Joshi revealed the region holds over 129 GW from large hydro and 18 GW from pumped storage. The MNRE has earmarked 10% of its annual budget for the region, with enhanced Central Financial Assistance under schemes like PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM. A 20 MW solar park in Mizoram and a 25 MW green hydrogen plant in Assam are already underway. Joshi emphasized the region’s strategic location for cross-border energy trade and its key role in India’s One Nation, One Grid initiative. Over 2,000 locals have been trained under RE skilling schemes, with strong investor interest and government backing for future development.
