Andaman to Introduce Apartment Ownership Regulation for Easier Registration.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration is set to implement the Apartment Ownership Regulation, 2025, enabling residents to register their flats and apartments individually. The move aims to regularise and streamline property registration, benefiting buyers and sellers alike. Currently, only buildings with eight or more units can be registered as housing cooperative societies, allowing access to bank loans. Smaller buildings face challenges as banks deny financing without registration. Once enforced, the new regulation will allow registration of apartments regardless of the number of units, opening avenues for property sales and bank loans. The draft regulation has been prepared in consultation with relevant departments, incorporating feedback from stakeholders, including developers, real estate agents, housing societies, and the public. Officials believe this reform will remove a major bottleneck in the islands’ property market and enhance transparency.
