India has pledged full support to Myanmar in the wake of the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28, which claimed over 3,000 lives and caused widespread destruction.
India's Ambassador Abhay Thakur confirmed that iconic sites like Mahamuni Pagoda, Mandalay Palace, and U Bein Bridge were severely damaged. India will assist in both immediate relief and long-term reconstruction under its 'Neighbourhood First' and 'Act East' policies. Key projects like the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit and the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway will aid recovery and connectivity. Over 1,000 tonnes of aid have already been delivered. Despite Myanmar’s internal conflicts, India’s efforts have received widespread support, reflecting the strength of bilateral ties and a shared vision for regional development.
