“Expanding capacity, fueling India’s clean energy future.”
Shell Energy India Secures Green Nod for ₹21,600 Cr Hazira LNG Terminal Expansion.
Shell Energy India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Shell Gas B.V., has received environmental clearance to expand its LNG terminal at Hazira Port, Gujarat, from 6.28 MMTPA to 26.2 MMTPA with an investment of ₹21,600 crore. The expansion includes raising regasification capacity to 25 MMTPA and truck loading facilities to 1.2 MMTPA. The project involves building new LNG storage tanks, a jetty, a breakwater, and capital dredging of 2.8 million cubic meters to deepen the channel for conventional LNG carriers. Commissioned in 2005 with 2.5 MMTPA capacity, the Hazira terminal has undergone multiple expansions but was limited by delayed forest clearances. With recent state approvals, Shell can now advance its large-scale plan. The expanded facilities will enable Shell to supply LNG not only to industrial customers but also for transport fuel, promoting LNG adoption in heavy-duty vehicles. The project underscores Shell’s commitment to strengthening India’s clean energy infrastructure.
