BBMP Targets ₹800 Cr in Property Tax Dues, Fast-Tracks 50,000+ e-Khata Applications
The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) has initiated a major drive to recover ₹700–₹800 crore in unpaid property taxes from 3.75 lakh defaulting property owners. BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has instructed officials to issue notices via SMS and email to expedite collections. At a recent review meeting, Rao emphasised that property tax recovery is a top civic priority. Meanwhile, the BBMP has received over 50,000 new Khata applications, which Rao has asked officials to process on a priority basis to boost revenue. To streamline property documentation, BBMP plans to launch an online A-Khata application system within 15 days, allowing citizens to convert B-Khata to A-Khata or apply afresh. The A-Khata is crucial for legal property recognition, building approvals, and availing loans. In contrast, B-Khata properties remain ineligible for several civic services due to irregular documentation or layouts.
