BW LPG India is expanding its fleet with a $150 million purchase of two modern Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), BW Pampero and BW Chinook, from its parent company, BW LPG..
This acquisition increases its Indian-flagged fleet to nine ships, strengthening its role in India's growing LPG market. The vessels, built in 2015, will enhance efficiency and support the country's rising LPG demand, which is growing at 4-6% annually. CEO Kristian Sørensen emphasized the importance of fleet renewal and India's subsidy scheme for sustaining investments. Director Gaurav Bhatia urged tax reforms to support Indian shipowners. With new infrastructure, VLGCs are expected to dominate LPG imports, improving cost efficiency and supply availability in India.
