Ashish Khanna, the new Director General of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
Aims to globalise India’s solar success by supporting underserved nations, especially in Asia and Africa. With 675 million Africans lacking electricity, Khanna emphasises Decentralised Renewable Energy (DRE) for productive uses like agriculture and cold storage. India’s experience with the KUSUM scheme and private sector-led DRE models serves as a blueprint. ISA supports 38 African countries, focusing on policy, technology, digital tendering, and institutional capacity building. Initiatives include STAR-C centres, youth entrepreneur programs like SolarX, and academic partnerships. ISA also backs risk mitigation to attract private investments. Khanna stresses replicating India’s success globally to ensure clean energy access, job creation, and economic transformation in emerging regions.
