Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged power companies to explore smaller hydropower projects on river tributaries, targeting capacities of 100-300 MW, alongside larger developments.
At the 8th Steering Committee meeting in Itanagar, he emphasized timely completion of 13 ongoing projects, noting daily losses of ₹9 crore due to delays. Khandu stressed using existing resources for smaller ventures and highlighted Power Grid Corporation’s role in transmission readiness. MoUs were signed with four PSUs to train hydropower staff, and ₹269.97 crore was handed over to Dibang Valley for the 3,097 MW Etalin project. Separately, concerns were raised over China’s Yarlung Tsangpo dam and its possible downstream impact.
