ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) stated that US tariffs on steel will have minimal impact On
India’s direct steel exports due to limited exposure and existing high entry barriers like anti-dumping duties and Section 232 rules. However, the company raised concerns about rising Chinese steel imports into India, as surplus steel diverted from the US floods Asian markets. AM/NS India's Ranjan Dhar emphasized the need for government protection to prevent dumping, especially as countries like Vietnam and Malaysia have built their own capacities, reducing China’s export options. In 2024, China exported 110 million tonnes of steel globally. AM/NS India currently produces 9 MTPA and plans to expand capacity to 15 MTPA by mid-2026.
